Sapphire and Diamond Stickpin

Hans Brassler sapphire and diamonds stickpin. (SP9636)

Sapphire and Diamonds

A sleepy blue sapphire glows amid the sparkle of sixteen small diamonds set in platinum.  This elegant Edwardian nocturne in blue and white was created by Hans Brassler with platinum and 14kt gold circa 1910.

Brassler was an artist and master jeweler who created imaginative miniature works of art using precious metals and gemstones.  In this stickpin he perfectly balanced the broad blue flashes of the sapphire with the scintillating glitter of the surrounding diamonds to create a mesmerizing dance of light and sparkle.

The reverse and side views of the stickpin illustrate the care with which Brassler worked.  Note the small windows (a joure) opened beneath each of the diamonds and the depth and evenness of the openwork along the side gallery.  Both signs of a master craftsman who worked without taking shortcuts or compromising on small, hidden details.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his jewelry.  Born in Germany,  he studied design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned or shared in a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.  He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked at Tiffany & Company for a period before founding his own workshop in 1909, The Brassler Company.  Brassler served as artistic director of the firm for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of striking, elegant jewels.
