Art Deco Sapphire CufflinksSapphire Jazz II |
A maelstrom of swirling waves surrounds a
bright blue sapphire. This Lilliputian tempest on a
cufflink is framed by a jazzy border of alternating Art Deco
scrolls and linear motifs. Created by Jacob Hookaylo in
14kt gold, circa 1925.
The backs of the cufflinks are yellow gold polished to a bright finish. Note with sturdy brackets and cross bars which secure the cufflinks on the cuff. (Please excuse the shadowy reflections from the camera.)
The cross bars are stamped with an "H" inside a lozenge (diamond shape). This is the maker's mark of Jacob Hookaylo, a Russian emigré who created fine jewelry during the 1920s and 1930s. Like many of the fine jewelry makers of the day, he was based in Newark, New Jersey. The opposite side of the cross bar i stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold. Name: Sapphire Jazz II |
