Art Nouveau Sunflower CufflinksArt Nouveau Sunflowers! |
Exuberant sunflowers blossom amid a tangle of whiplash vines in these dramatic Art Nouveau cufflinks. Beautifully sculpted in gold, the sunflowers seem to radiate sunlight and warmth. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
In the years around 1900 Art Nouveau jewelers created miniature masterpieces that interpreted nature in fantastic, sometimes surreal ways. These cufflinks are a nice example of the striking marriage of nature and fantasy found in Art Nouveau jewels.
The cufflinks are beautifully constructed with sturdy "bean" backs and split bridges strengthened by small gold balls set in the cleft. The inside of the bean backs are stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold and with an unidentified maker's mark, a stylized Maltese cross.
