Amethyst and Pearl BroochBrassler Amethyst and Pearls |
A rich purple amethyst accented with small,
luminous pearls. This finely sculpted brooch was created
by Hans Brassler, a jewelry virtuoso who created imaginative
miniature masterpieces in the early 20th century. The
amethyst brooch was created in 14kt gold circa 1910. The reverse of the brooch is as finely crafted as the front. Note the elegant simplicity of the design and sturdiness of the construction - both hallmarks of Brassler's work. A strong pin stem and early safety clasp secure the brooch when worn and reflect the care taken in creating the jewel. Hans Brassler was an imaginative jeweler/artist who in the early 1900s created a small collection of gem-set brooches accented with small pearls. Brassler's work is remarkable for its originality and the maker's uncompromising commitment to fine craftsmanship. The maker's mark of Hans Brassler - "14B" inside a double oval - is stamped on the top of the clasp. Name: Brassler Amethyst and Pearls This brooch records part of its early history with a small inscription along the upper back - "D.C. to H.B.D. 6.3'11". This sentiment is likely from the original giver of the brooch (D.C.) to the recipient (H.B.D.) on an important day they shared in the late spring of 1911.
