Carrington Bloodstone CufflinksCarrington Heliotrope |
Elegant cufflinks set with alluring bloodstones
with fiery red accents reminiscent of embers burning in a dark
bed of ashes. The gemstones are hand-set in gold with
classic laurel leaves and berries running along the edges.
Created by Carrington and Co. in 14kt gold circa 1910. Heliotrope, also known as "bloodstone," is a beautiful variety of quartz with red spots of iron oxide embedded in dark green or black jasper. Heliotrope and other attractive varieties of quartz, such as moss agate, carnelian and citrine, were often favored gemstones in the gentleman's jewelry of the early 1900s. The backs of the cufflinks are as finely handcrafted as the fronts. Note the sturdy bezels that hold the heliotropes and the strong cross bars and brackets that secure the cufflinks on the cuff. Carrington & Co. was known for the care it took with even the small, hidden details of its cufflinks. The maker's mark of Carrington
& Co. (an angular "C" enclosing "14" the day. Name: Carrington Heliotrope |
