Carrington Amethyst CufflinksPurple and Gold |
Regal purple amethysts set in finely crafted
yellow gold cufflinks created by Carrington & Company circa
1920.
Among the ancient Greeks it was believed that amethysts would protect a wine drinker from the ill effects of over imbibing. Thus, these elegant cufflinks are ideal for an occasional oenophile as well as a more committed follower of Bacchus.
The gold backs are closed which protects the amethysts and provides a sturdy base for the brackets and cross bars which secure these cufflinks on the cuff. The backs are polished to a bright finish - please excuse the shadowy reflections from the camera.
The maker's mark of Carrington & Company
(a squared "C"
enclosing "14") is stamped on the reverse of the cufflinks.
Carrington & Company was a maker of fine cufflinks and other jewelry during the first half of the 20th century. The firm was known for its exceptional craftsmanship, fine materials and elegant designs. Carrington cufflinks were retailed by Tiffany & Co. and other fine jewelers of the day. Name: Purple and Gold
