Art Deco Carnelian CufflinksModerne Carnelian! |
Glowing ember-like carnelians set in white gold. The cool brilliance of the gold contrasts elegantly with the warm sultry red of the carnelians . A wonderful example of the starkly beautiful Art Moderne style of the late Art Deco period. Created by Carter, Gough & Co. in 14kt gold, circa 1930.
Vintage cufflinks should always be closely examined from every direction with special attention paid to the backs. The backs reveal the care and craftsmanship with which a pair of cufflinks was created. Here you can see Carter, Gough's uncompromising attention to detail in the mirror-like finish of the 14kt white gold, the crispness of the edges, and the sturdy brackets and strong cross bars that secure these links on the cuff.
Carter, Gough & Company was a maker of fine gold cufflinks, stickpins and brooches during the early decades of the last century. The firm was known for the quality of its craftsmanship and elegance of its designs. The Carter, Gough maker's mark - an arrowhead surrounding a small "C" - is stamped on the crossbars just to the right of the "14K" gold purity mark.
