Art Deco Hematite CufflinksHematite Moderne |
The elegant Art Moderne style of the 1930s
created some of the most striking cufflinks of the 20th
century. This pair of Carter, Gough cufflinks features the
cool brilliance of white gold paired with the beautiful metallic
gray sheen of hematite. They create an elegant study in
gray and white. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1930.
The backs of these cufflinks reveal the care and craftsmanship with which they were created, as well as how well they have stood the passage of time. Here you can see the maker's attention to detail in the sturdy brackets and strong cross bars that secure these links on the cuff, the crisp edges and the brightness of the finish. These cufflinks are in fine condition only showing slight wear consistent with their use and age. They should survive the next 100 years as well as past.
Carter, Gough & Co. was a maker of fine gold cufflinks, stickpins and other jewels during the early decades of the last century. The firm was known for the quality of its craftsmanship and elegance of its designs. The Carter, Gough maker's mark (an arrowhead enclosing a small "C") and the gold purity mark ("W-14K") are stamped on the backs above the brackets.
