Carter Moss Agate CufflinksMoss Agate Moderne |
Alluring moss agates set in striking white gold
bezels. The moss agates swirl with a tangle of green
inclusions reminiscent of seaweed drifting in filtered sunlight
just below the ocean's surface. These elegant cufflinks
were created by Carter, Gough in the Art Moderne style of the
late Art Deco period, circa 1930. Moss agate is a fine-grained variety of quartz prized for its dramatic green inclusions. This striking gemstone was a favorite among the makers of gentlemen's accessories and fine jewelry during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The white gold backs of these cufflinks are as finely crafted as the fronts. Note that the backs are closed to protect the moss agates. On the cuff sturdy cross bars and loop brackets help secure the cufflinks.
Carter, Gough & Co. was a maker of fine cufflinks, stickpins and other jewels during the early decades of the 20th century. The firm was known for its exquisite craftsmanship and the elegance of its designs. The Carter, Gough maker's mark (an arrowhead enclosing a small "C") and the gold purity mark ("14K") are stamped on the cross bars.
