Elegant Scroll CufflinksIntricate Scrolls! |
Elegant cufflinks with intricate, entwined scrolls. The design is inspired by the foliate scrolls embellishing medieval tapestries and illuminated manuscripts. You almost expect the leafy mask of the Green Man to peer out from behind the twisting vines. Created by Carter, Howe & Co. in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The cufflinks are well constructed. The oval tops are securely connected to the bean-shape backs with sturdy curved bridges. Carter, Howe was known for careful attention to details when designing and crafting fine cufflinks.
The cross bars are stamped with the maker's mark of Carter, Howe & Company (later Carter, Gough & Co.), creators of fine gold and platinum jewelry during the early decades of the last century. The maker's mark is a small arrowhead surrounding the letter "C". To the left of the maker's mark is the gold purity mark ("14").
