Edwardian Diamond BroochEdwardian Elegance! |
An elegant Edwardian bar pin set with a sparkling Old European Cut diamond. The delicate, open filigree work and intricate decorative elements are why Edwardian jewels are so often described as lace in precious metal. Crafted in 18kt white gold, circa 1920.
The central motif rises above the filigree work with the Old European Cut diamond set at the summit. The sloping sides are adorned with stylized palmettes (which are echoed by the palmettes at the ends of the brooch) and chased scrollwork. For an elegant touch of sparkle, the edges are milligrained with a minute, bead-like pattern.
The reverse of the brooch shows the care with which it was crafted. The design elements and filigree work were hand placed and attached. Note the sturdy side walls which frame the piece and protect the smaller elements. The finest Edwardian jewels, although delicate in appearance, were beautifully and securely crafted.
