Art Nouveau Lucky CufflinksFeeling Lucky! |
A four-leaf clover, lucky horseshoe and wishbone assure the wearer of these cufflinks good fortune. The influence of Art Nouveau design can be seen in the sinuous curve along the border that flows into the stem of the lucky clover. Created by Larter & Sons in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
Fine jewels should be beautiful from every direction, so it is always best to carefully examine the backs of cufflinks. These cufflinks have sturdy bean backs attached to the fronts with deeply curved split bridges. The curve and flare of the bridges helps assure that the links rest securely on the cuff and remain properly oriented.
The cufflinks were created in the early 1900s by the jewelry makers Larter & Sons. Founded in 1865, Larter & Sons created distinctive gentleman's jewelry for nearly 150 years. The cufflinks are stamped on the top of the bridge "14K" for the purity of the gold. Just to the right of the gold mark is the maker's mark for Larter & Sons, a profile of a shirt stud patented by the firm in 1898.
