Art Nouveau Lucky CufflinksGood Luck! |
A lucky horseshoe, four-leaf clover and
wishbone promise the wearer of these elegant cufflinks good
fortune. In the Art Nouveau taste the stem of
the four-leaf clover twists and turns with sinuous curves to
form the outer edge of the cufflinks. Created by Larter &
Sons in 14kt gold, circa 1900. Fine cufflinks can be admired from every direction including the usually unseen backs. The reverse of these cufflinks shows the polished, bean-shaped backs which anchor the cufflinks and are attached to the fronts with sturdy split bridges. The curve and flare of the bridges helps assure that these cufflinks remain secure and properly oriented on a cuff.
The bridges are stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold and with the maker's mark of Larter & Sons - the profile of a shirt stud introduced by the firm in the late 1890s. Founded in 1865, Larter & Sons created distinctive gentleman's jewelry and accessories for nearly 150 years. In the years around 1900 the firm created a small, but desirable collection of bean back cufflinks inspired by the prevailing Art Nouveau taste. Name: Good Luck!
