Victorian Onyx and Rose Gold BroochLily of the Valley |
An elegant Victorian mourning brooch with a
flowing spray of lilies of the valley crafted in rose gold and
set with small pearls. During the Victorian era,
Lilies of the valley were a symbol innocence, humility and the
return of happiness. Crafted in onyx and 14kt gold, circa
1880. The backs of all fine jewels should be as nicely finished as the fronts. The reverse of this brooch is well crafted. Note the sturdy back plate and the strong pin stem and catch that secure the brooch when worn. Jewels of the Victorian era were for the most part hand-assembled and the care of the artisans can be seen in the finished work.
