Beautiful Art Nouveau CufflinksWarrior-Princess! |
Art Nouveau jewelers often celebrated heroines from myth and history. The resolute stare and flowing golden tresses of the warrior-princess embodies the spirit of Art Nouveau and its break with the staid Victorian past. The silver-gilt tops of the cufflinks glow with the hint of ancient gold. Created by Link & Angell in sterling silver, circa 1900.
The cufflinks are well constructed. The decorated tops are connected with curved bridges to sturdy bean backs. The bridges securely attach to the tops with distinctive double "U" brackets favored by the maker. The maker's attention to finish and small details is highlighted by the elegance and simplicity of the design.
These cufflinks were created by Link & Angell, a maker of fine cufflinks and other jewels from 1871 to about 1930. The firm was known for its beautiful, imaginative jewels crafted in both sterling silver and 14kt gold. The maker's mark of Link & Angell, three links of a chain surrounding "L", "&" and "A", is stamped on the inside of the bean backs along with "STERLING" for the purity of the silver.
