Elegant Art Nouveau CufflinksArt Nouveau Waves! |
Dramatic scrolls flow along the edges of these cufflinks like frothy, crashing waves. The dynamic design is a nice example of the Art Nouveau fascination with dramatic, twisting forms. Created by Link & Angell in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The backs of the cufflinks illustrate the care with which they were crafted. The solid tops are attached to bean backs with sturdy curved bridges. The tops are solidly constructed adding to the heft and durability of the cufflinks.
The maker's mark of Link & Angell, three links of a chain enclosing "L", "&" and "A", is found on the inside of the tops and bean backs. Link & Angell was founded by William Link in 1871. The firm created fine gold and sterling cufflinks until the early 1930s. The purity of the gold is also marked ("14K").
