Moss Agate CufflinksMoss Agates |
Mesmerizing moss agates set in bright yellow
gold bezels. The moss agates swirl with a tangle of green
inclusions reminiscent of seaweed floating in filtered sunlight
along the bottom of the sea. Beautifully crafted, elegant
cufflinks created by Richardson Co. in 14kt gold, circa
1920.
The backs of the cufflinks are as finely crafted as the fronts. The gold backs are closed to help protect the moss agates. Note the sturdy cross bars and barrel brackets that secure these cufflinks on the cuff. Finally, the backs are signed with the initials of the original owner.
The maker's mark of the Richardson Manufacturing Company (a fancy "R" followed by "14K") is stamped on the cross bars. Founded in 1840, Richardson was one of the earliest makers of fine jewelry in the United States. During the 1920s the firm created elegant cufflinks that captured the festive mood of the era.
Moss Agate is a prized, fine-grained variety of quartz with dramatic green inclusions. This striking gem was a favorite among the makers of gentleman's accessories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Name: Moss Agate
