Elegantly Engraved Pearl Brooch

An elegant, small brooch with four pearls set in recessed niches separated by curved panels of rippling engraved gold framed by white enamel borders.  This exquisite jewel is a testament to the ability of jewelry makers in the early 1900s to create small, beautiful things.  Created by Riker Bros. in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

The brooch is finely crafted with a sturdy pin stem and early safety clasp securing the jewel when worn.  The upper reverse is stamped with the maker's mark of Riker Bros. (an "R" above a scimitar) and the lower reverse is marked "14K" for the purity of the gold.

Riker Bros. was a maker of fine brooches, stickpins and other jewels from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century.  The firm was known for its enamel work and refined treatment of gold surfaces with engraving and chasing - both attributes seen in this brooch.
