Elegant Sapphire and Diamond CufflinksSapphires and Diamonds II! |
Beautifully engraved platinum-top cufflinks set with blue cabochon sapphires and sparkling white diamonds. The hexagonal borders are decorated with intricate geometric designs in the Art Deco fashion. An elegant accent to any cuff. Crafted in platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1920.
The cufflinks are well constructed with sturdy cross bars and bracket mountings. The 14kt gold backs are polished to a bright finish. Please excuse the dark reflections from my camera.
The cross bars is marked "PL. ON 14K" for the purity
of the platinum tops and 14kt gold backs.
Name: Sapphires and Diamonds II
Sapphire and Diamond Cufflinks
Sometimes known as "Night and Day" cufflinks, Sapphire and Diamond cufflinks are a reflection of the Victorian belief that diamonds should only be worn after dark. A gentleman (or lady) could wear these cufflinks during the day with the sapphires facing outward. In the evening the cufflinks would be reversed to display the diamonds.
By the Jazz Age of the 1920s, it is doubtful that the fashion strictures of the Victorian era were being followed. Still, the jazzy mix of diamonds and sapphires added to the elegant versatility of these cufflinks. It is undeniable that either gemstone plays beautifully when set in finely engraved platinum.
