Edwardian Diamond BroochFleur de Lys |
An elegant Edwardian brooch with stylized
lilies and stars in fine filigree work. In the center a
small diamond sparkles from within a quatrefoil setting.
Beautifully crafted by Taylor & Co. in 14kt white and yellow
gold, circa 1920. The ends of the bar pin are embellished with beautifully rendered fleurs-de-lys that frame the filigree work. There is an exceptional level of detail in this brooch and a dramatic, elegant interplay of the of the white and yellow gold that is mesmerizing.
The reverse of the brooch is crafted in 14kt yellow gold with the same care and skill as the front. Note the sturdy walls of the gallery which frames and protects the intricate filigree work. Although the finest Edwardian jewels are delicate in appearance, they are surprisingly sturdy and well crafted. The top of the clasp is stamped with the maker's mark of Taylor & Company - "14" and "K" separated by a draftsman's "T". The jewelry maker was founded in the late 1800s and created beautifully designed, finely crafted brooches, cufflinks and other jewels until the Great Depression closed the firm in the 1930s.
