Lapis Lazuli StickpinMidnight Blue |
Soaring Art Nouveau "wings" cradle a midnight
blue lapis lazuli in an exotic flower or perhaps flames.
The deep blue lapis glistens with small bits of pyrite (fool's
gold) that sparkle like stars in the night sky. A small
silvery pearl is set below. Crafted in 14kt gold,
circa 1900.
This elegant stickpin was created by Hayden W. Wheeler & Co. a maker of fine stickpins and other jewels from the 1850s into the early 20th century. The firm was especially known for the sturdy gold pocket watch cases it created at its manufactory in Brooklyn, New York. The reverse of the stickpin (pictured below) is as nicely crafted as the front. Note the sturdy pin stem which secures the stickpin on a tie or lapel. The maker's mark of Hayden W. Wheeler is found on the lower reverse partially obscured by the pin stem. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
