Antique Amethyst StickpinAmethyst and Arch |
A rich purple amethyst set beneath a broad arch
with neoclassical embellishments. At the apex of the arch
rests a stylized anthemion, while below is a small heart.
This striking stickpin from the early 1900s somewhat resembles
the work of Hans Brassler. Created by Alling & Co. in
14kt gold, circa 1910.
Alling was a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels during the Victorian era and early 20th century. The firm was known for creating imaginative, finely crafted jewels. This stickpin is crafted with a solid gold back which holds and protects the amethyst. A sturdy gold pin stem secures the jewel when worn. The maker's mark of Alling & Co. (a shamrock enclosing a "14" and "A") is stamped on the right side of the reverse. (see photo below). Cost: $435
