Art Nouveau Autumn BroochAutumn! |
A beautiful Art Nouveau brooch celebrating autumn. A woman in profile is surrounded by a profusion of blossoming chrysanthemums. One of the chrysanthemums is set with a sparkling diamond. Created by Bippart, Griscom & Osborn in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The reverse of the brooch is just as beautiful. A dramatic trinity of blossoms explode like fireworks in the night sky. The brooch is secured with a sturdy pin stem and "C" clasp. A chatelaine hook allows a watch or other pendant to be suspended below the brooch.
The reverse of the brooch is stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold. To the right of the gold mark, a maker's mark is just visible. The mark, a flaming torch lying horizontally, belongs to the jewelry makers Bippart, Griscom & Osborn, who created fine gold and platinum jewelry during the late 1800s and early decades of the following century.
