A softly glowing coral cabochon set in an
elegant brooch imaginatively wedding elements of Art Deco,
Neoclassical and Asian design. Created by Hans Brassler in
14kt gold, circa 1910. The reverse of the brooch is as finely crafted as the front. Note the sturdy framework that protects the coral and the strong pin stem and clasp which secure the jewel when worn. The backs of Brassler jewels are usually as beautifully crafted as the fronts.
Hans Brassler was a jewelry
designer and goldsmith who for a few years in the early 1900s
created a wonderful collection of imaginative jewels.
His work is known for its striking originality and fine
craftsmanship. The maker's mark of the Brassler workshop
- "14B" inside a double oval - is stamped on the top of the
safety clasp.
