Art Nouveau Sapphire Brooch Sapphires and Pearl |
An Art Nouveau brooch with dark sapphires and a
small pearl set amid flowing curves and draping acanthus
leaves. This intriguing jewel brings to mind an exotic
moth spreading its wings in the night or, perhaps, a rare
nocturnal flower blooming in the moonlight. A beautiful
example of the Art Nouveau taste for otherworldly,
dream-inspired fantasy. Created in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The reverse of the brooch is beautifully crafted with a sturdy framework supporting the flowing curves of the design. At some point in the past the clasp of the brooch was replaced with a safety clasp to assure the jewel would remain securely attached when worn.
