Brassler Lapis Lazuli StickpinThe Night Beetle |
A Hans Brassler "insectomorphic" stickpin
set with a deep blue lapis lazuli glittering with
flecks of pyrite. The oval lapis suggests the body
of an exotic beetle or moth while the gold setting forms tightly
folded wings hugging the sides of the creature. Finely
crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1910.
Hans Brassler was an exceptional jewelry designer and glodsmith who in the early 1900s created a collection of jewels inspired by fantastic creatures and stylized insects. His jewels often wedded elements of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Neoclassical design to create uniquely imaginative jewels of striking beauty. This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a sturdy gold pin stem to secure it on a lapel or scarf. The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, a double oval surrounding "14B" is stamped on the lower reverse behind the pin stem. Cost: $425 |
