Elegant Abalone CufflinksCarrington Buttons! |
Elegant abalone cufflinks designed to resemble traditional buttons on a cuff. The iridescence of the abalone plays nicely off the reeded-and-tied white gold borders. Created by Carrington & Company in 14kt gold, circa 1940.
The backs of the cufflinks are beautifully crafted in 14kt gold. The Carrington attention to fine detail is seen in the polished mirror-like surfaces, the sturdy cross bars and the strong brackets that secure these links on the cuff. (Please excuse the hazy reflections from my camera.)
The maker's mark of Carrington & Company (a "C" surrounding a "14" for the purity of the gold) is stamped on the reverse of the cufflinks. Carrington & Company was a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets from about 1900 to 1950. The firm was known for elegant design and uncompromising craftsmanship.  Carrington provided elegant gold cufflinks to many of the finest jewelers of the day.
