Elegant Abalone and Pearl CufflinksCarrington Abalone and Pearl! |
Iridescent abalone and pearl cufflinks in the Art Moderne style of the late 1930s. The abalone is a dark aubergine with flashes of red and green that contrasts beautifully with the brilliance of the platinum borders and the white of the pearls. Created by Carrington & Company in platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1935.
The backs of the cufflinks are beautifully crafted in 14kt gold. Carrington's attention to fine detail can be seen in the polished mirror-like surfaces, the sturdy cross bars and the strong brackets that secure the links on the cuff. (Please excuse the hazy reflections from my camera.)
The maker's mark of Carrington & Company (a "C" surrounding a "14" for the purity of the gold) is stamped on the reverse of the cufflinks. The cufflinks are also marked "GOLD&PLAT" indicating they are crafted of gold and platinum. Carrington & Company was a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets from 1900 to 1950. Based in Newark, New Jersey, the firm provided elegant platinum and gold cufflinks to many of the finest jewelers of the day. Name: Carrington Abalone and Pearl
