Elegant Moonstone CufflinksMoonstruck! |
Luminous moonstones glow in the center of these mesmerizing gold cufflinks in the Arts & Crafts style. Moonstones were particularly prized for the way they shimmer in flickering candle and gas light. Created in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The almond shape of the cufflinks are incised with a pattern of intersecting curves. The Moonstones have a slightly bluish cast that adds an air of mystery and beautifully plays off the antique tones of the gold.
These cufflinks are well constructed with bean-shape backs attached to the tops with sturdy split bridges. The curve and flair of the bridges help keep the cufflinks properly oriented on the cuff. The cufflinks were created by Day, Clark & Company, a firm known for attention to detail in crafting and designing jewels.
The maker's mark of Day, Clark & Company is stamped on the cross bars. The mark is a small barbell-style cufflink. Beneath the maker's mark is "14" for the purity of the gold. The firm created beautiful gold cufflinks and jewels from 1877 until the early 1940s.
