Eagle and Diamond StickpinLiberté! |
A fierce eagle takes flight from its perch atop a small table-cut diamond. The eagle is beautifully sculpted with wind ruffling its feathers and lifting its wings. Crafted in 18kt gold, French, circa 1900.
In the years around 1900, French jewelers created beautiful, richly detailed stickpins that are best viewed as miniature works of sculpture. This avian stickpin is a wonderful example. The reverse of the stickpin (pictured below) is as nicely crafted as the front. Note the sturdy thickness of the gold edges. The pin stem is stamped with the French purity mark for 18kt gold (an eagle's head) and an indistinct maker's mark. Cost: This antique stickpin has sold.
