Jazz Age Pinstripe CufflinksPinstripes and Geometry |
Art Deco cufflinks with jazzy pinstripes
surrounded by finely engraved borders with repeated geometric
designs. The strong graphic elements and geometric motifs
suggest the design of these cufflinks was influenced by the eras
interest in the arts and artifacts of Africa, Oceania and other
distant lands. The cufflinks were finely crafted in 14kt
gold circa 1925.
The backs of the cufflinks are as well-crafted as the fronts. Note the sturdy curved bridges that secure the tops. The bridges are hinged at one end and fixed at the other - a design intended to ease the passage of the cufflink through a buttonhole.
The backs of the cufflinks are stamped with a maker's mark - a "B" and "T" surrounding the gold purity mark "14K". This maker has yet to be identified. Many fine cufflink makers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries disappeared in the economic downturn of the 1930s. Regrettably, the records and histories of many of these workshops have been lost. I suspect this is true of the unidentified maker of these cufflinks. All that remains of these anonymous makers are the beautiful cufflinks they created.
