Platinum and Diamond CufflinksEdwardian Elegance! |
The elegance of the Edwardian era sparkles in these platinum and diamond cufflinks. The cushion-shape platinum tops feature scroll borders and intricately engraved centers set with small diamonds. The softly engraved platinum shimmers like watered silk. Crafted in platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1910.
The backs of the cufflinks are crafted in 14kt yellow gold. The Edwardian fondness for platinum-over-gold jewels harks back to an earlier time when diamonds were set in silver backed with gold. The gold backing the silver helped protect the wearer of the jewel from silver's tendency to tarnish. The backs of the cufflinks are marked "PLAT" and "14K" for the purity of the precious metals. Just to the right of the "14K" mark is an indistinct maker's mark. Further research is needed to identify the maker of these cufflinks.
