Tree Agate CufflinksTree Agates |
Striking dendritic agates (also known as "tree
agates") set in yellow gold cufflinks. The intriguing
agates "bloom" with dark inclusions that resemble towering trees
and exotic plants in some primordial landscape. These finely
crafted cufflinks were created by George O. Street & Sons in
14kt gold, circa 1910.
A Little Natural History - Dendritic agate is a translucent variety of chalcedony quartz with branching, tree-like inclusions of iron and other metallic oxides . This mesmerizing gem was a favored accent in fine cufflinks and other gentlemen's accessories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
As expected with George O. Street & Sons, the backs of the cufflinks are finely crafted. Note the sturdy strap brackets and elongated oval links that help secure the cufflinks on the cuff. George O. Street created fine cufflinks and other jewels from 1837 through the first half of the 20th century. The firm was known for its fine gold work, elegant design and use of exceptional materials.
The maker's mark of George O. Street & Sons (an "S" in
an oval) Name: Tree Agates
