Sapphire and Diamond CufflinksSapphires and Diamonds |
Elegant Art Deco cufflinks with rich blue
sapphires and sparkling diamonds centering an intricate "spider
web" design radiating outward to geometric borders with
double-scroll corners. Created by Charles Keller in 14kt
gold and platinum, circa 1925. The backs of the cufflinks are finely crafted in 14kt gold and secured on the cuff with sturdy cross bars. On one side of the backs "PLAT. ON 14K" is stamped indicating that the tops are platinum laid over 14kt gold. The cross bars are show the maker's mark of Charles Keller & Company - an elongated "C" surrounding a "14" (for the purity of the gold) followed by a "K". The top and bottom of the "C" are slightly distorted by the rounded top of the cross bar. Charles Keller was a maker of fine cufflinks and other jewels from the late 19th century into the early 1930s. Name: Sapphires and Diamonds Night and Day Cufflinks
These elegant cufflinks reflect the
belief that diamonds should only be worn after dark. In
theory, these cufflinks would be worn with the sapphires
facing outward during the day and the diamonds facing
outward in the evening. In practice, personal taste and
habit more likely dictated whether the diamonds or the
sapphires were displayed on the outer cuffs.
