Sapphire and Diamond CufflinksSapphires and Diamonds! |
Sparkling diamonds and rich blue sapphires set in golden pinstripes and surrounded by victorious wreathes. The classic elegance of antique cufflinks says it all! Created by Charles Keller & Co. in 14kt gold, circa 1920.
The backs of the cufflinks are crafted in brightly finished 14kt yellow gold. Note the sturdy winged bridges and capped brackets that secure these cufflinks on the cuff. (Please excuse the shadowy reflections from my camera.)
The maker's mark for Charles Keller & Company (an elongated "C" surrounding "14" followed by "K") is stamped on the cross bars. The upper and lower branches of the "C" are partially obscured by the curved profile of the bridge. Charles Keller was a maker of fine gold and platinum cufflinks from 1885 to about 1930.
Name: Sapphires and Diamonds Sapphire and Diamond Cufflinks
Sometimes known as "Night and Day" cufflinks, sapphire and diamond cufflinks are a reflection of the Victorian belief that diamonds should only be worn after dark. A gentleman would wear these cufflinks with the sapphires facing outward during the day. In the evening the cufflinks would be reversed to display the diamonds.
