A fierce lion glares out from behind a golden mane. The lion is richly detailed with a full mane, whiskers and fierce eyes. A nice example of the beautifully sculpted cufflinks of the years around 1900. Created by Krementz & Company in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
These cufflinks have a surprise. Like the fronts, the backs are
also decorated with a dramatic roaring lion.
 The backs of Victorian cufflinks were often left unfinished or occassionally engraved with the owner's initials. As a result the backs looked plain and uninspired. To remedy this, around 1900 Krementz & Company created a beautiful series of cufflinks with decorated backs. Like these regal lions, the cufflinks reflected the themes favored during late Victorian and Art Nouveau periods.
 The cufflinks are well constructed. The tops are attached to the decorated backs with sturdy "crow foot" bridges. The elegance and simplicity of the design is mirrored in the maker's attention to finish and small details.
The bridges are stamped with the maker's mark of Krementz & Company - a stylized collar button. The maker's mark is seen just to the right of the "14K" gold purity mark. Founded in 1866, Krementz created elegant cufflinks and dress sets during the Victorian era and first half of the 20th century.
