Antique Larter & Sons Gold CufflinksLarter Golden Swags! |
A wonderful pair of Larter & Sons cufflinks featuring classic golden swags surrounding snowflake-like star bursts. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1920.
As with all fine jewels, you should closely examine the underside of cufflinks. Here you can see the maker's attention to detail and the ornate scrolls that decorate the cross bars. Also note the high polish and care with which the backs of the cufflinks are finished.
One side of the cross bars are marked with the purity of the gold and the maker's mark. The mark for Larter & Sons (a spring-loaded shirt stud) is visible just to the right of the "14K" gold mark.
During the early decades of the last century some of the most elegant cufflinks were made by the firm Larter & Sons. The firm was founded in 1865 and made distinctive cufflinks, dress sets and gentlemen's jewelry during the late Victorian era and first few decades of the last century. The firm had offices in New York City and manufactured its jewelry across the Hudson in Newark, New Jersey. It was known for elegant design, innovation and craftsmanship. Name: Larter Golden Swags!
