Art Deco Onyx Cufflinks

| A dramatic contrast of black onyx and white
gold gives these Art Deco cufflinks a captivating, sophisticated
elegance. The white gold borders are decorated with a
geometric design of concentric circles and cross bands.
Created by Larter & Sons in 14kt gold, circa 1925.
 The backs of the cufflinks are crafted in 14kt yellow gold fitted within the white gold borders. Sturdy cross bars and strap brackets secure these cufflinks on the cuff. The gold is polished to a bright finish (please excuse the shadowy reflections of the camera).  The cross bars are stamped with the maker's mark of Larter & Sons (a stylized shirt stud) surrounded by "14" and "K". The mark is the profile of a spring-loaded shirt stud patented by Halsey Larter (one of the sons) in 1898 and popularized by the firm in the early 20th century.
 Larter & Sons was founded at the close of the Civil War and made distinctive cufflinks and dress sets during the late Victorian era and for much of the 20th century. The firm had offices in New York City and manufactured its jewelry across the Hudson River in Newark, New Jersey.
