Heliotrope and Gold CufflinksHeliotrope! |
Heliotrope, more commonly known as "bloodstone," is a beautiful gemstone with bright red spots set in dark green jasper. The finest examples have the mesmerizing appearance of fiery embers smouldering in a dark bed of ashes. These cufflinks, created in the Art Deco period, feature elongated oval heliotropes set in bright yellow gold. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1920.
The cufflinks are well crafted with sturdy cross links, strap brackets and solid gold backs. The early decades of the last century were a period when as much care and time was taken in crafting cuff jewels as in designing and decorating them.
The maker's mark of Sansbury & Nellis, "S-N", and the purity of the gold, "14K", are stamped on the backs. Sansbury & Nellis was a maker of fine cufflinks during the early decades of the last century. The firm was known for its work with lesser-known, unusual gemstones.
