The early 1900s was a period of rapid innovation among cufflink makers.  Each maker tried to outdo the others by creating cufflinks that were both easy to put on and securely attached once on the cuff.  This pair of Sansbury & Nellis cufflinks is an example the "spool" design that was briefly popular in the years around 1920.

Sansbury & Nellis was a maker of fine cufflinks and gold jewelry during the early decades of the last century.  The firms's maker's mark ("S-N") is visible on the reverse of the cufflinks along with "14-K" for the purity of the gold.
