Amethyst and Diamond Stickpin Amethyst and Scrolls |
| A rich purple amethyst is framed by a finely
sculpted laurel wreath with dramatically rising scrolls along
the sides. The facets of a small diamond sparkle beneath
the amethyst. This elegant stickpin was created by
Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.
Brassler was an imaginative jeweler/artist who created striking miniature works of art in gold and precious gemstones. He found inspiration for his jewels in a wide variety of sources - distant and ancient cultures, the natural and organic world and, of course, his own fertile imagination.
This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a sturdy gold pin stem and strong frame holding the amethyst and diamond (see photo below). The maker's mark of the Brassler Company - an oval surrounding "14B" - is stamped on the right side of the reverse. Cost: $585Measurements: This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 9/16" long and the top measures 11/16" tall by just over 1/2" wide. It weighs 2.7 grams. |

  Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his jewelry. Born in Germany, he studied design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned or shared in a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked at Tiffany & Company for a period before founding his own workshop in 1909, The Brassler Company. Brassler served as artistic director of the firm for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of striking, elegant jewels. His daughter is the noted 20th century sculptor Margaret Brassler Kane. |
