Brassler Lapis Stickpin Medieval Elegance |
| Rich blue lapis lazuli is framed in a cruciform
setting reflecting the interest in the Middle Ages and the Arts
& Crafts movement in the late 19th and early 20th
centuries. This stickpin was created by Hans Brassler in
14kt gold, circa 1910.
Hans Brassler was an imaginative jeweler/artist who created unique works of art with gemstones and gold. He drew inspiration from many sources - distant and ancient cultures, natural and organic forms, his own fertile imagination. One aspect of his genius was his ability to bring together design elements from disparate sources to create original and beautiful jewels. This stickpin is finely crafted with a sturdy frame protecting the lapis and a strong pin stem to secure the stickpin when worn. The maker's mark for the Brassler workshop ("14B" in an oval) is stamped on the lower reverse beneath the pin stem (see photo below).
