Engraved Mother-of-Pearl Dress Set

Carrington & Company created some of the
finest dress sets of the Art Deco era. Among the firm's
elegant creations were dress sets with beautifully engraved
mother-of pearl centers. This stellar example features
shimmering, radiant stars surrounded by jazzy platinum
borders. A wonderful example of exuberant Jazz Age
design. Crafted in platinum and 14kt gold, circa
1930. Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs and four vest buttons. The shirt studs and vest buttons repeat the jazzy design of the cufflinks. The vest buttons (one pictured above) are the same size as the cufflinks, 9/16" in diameter. The shirt studs (pictured below) are just over 5/16" in diameter and 1" long.  Carrington & Company was a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets during the first half of the 20th century. The firm's gold and platinum jewels were often retailed by Tiffany & Company (as was this dress set) and other carriage trade jewelers of the day. Carrington cufflinks and dress sets were known for elegant design, exquisite materials and impeccable craftsmanship.  The reverse of the cufflinks, shirt studs and vest buttons are as beautifully crafted as the fronts. The backs are crafted in 14kt yellow gold and polished to a bright finish. (Please excuse the reflections from my camera.) Sturdy brackets and cross bars secure the links on the cuff.
The maker's mark for Carrington &
Company, a "C" surrounding "14",
is visible on the backs. The reverse of the cufflinks and vest buttons are also marked "GOLD&PLAT" for the precious metals.  Name: Carrington Stars
This dress set was purchased at Tiffany &
Company during the 1920s or 30s. The set comes with its
original period case covered in green leather and lined with
white silk. The inside of the lid is signed "Tiffany
& Co./New York/Paris London" and the underside of the case
is blind stamped "Tiffany&Co." just beneath the
clasp. Carrington & Company was a significant
supplier of cufflinks and dress sets to Tiffany's and other
fine jewelers in the early part of the last century.
