Carrington Moonstone Dress SetMoonlight in Platinum |
The ethereal, shimmering light of moonstone
set in the cool brilliance of platinum. The cabochon-cut
moonstones glow with a silvery, white luminance accented with
subtle hints of blue. This full dress set weds the
sophisticated elegance of the Art Deco era with a touch of
moonlit romance. Created by Carrington & Company in
platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1925.
Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs and four vest buttons that repeat the elegant design of the cufflinks. The shirt studs (pictured above) are 5/16" in diameter and just under 1 1/4" long. The vest buttons (one pictured below) are just under 9/16" in diameter.
Carrington & Company was one of the preeminent makers of fine dress sets during the first half of the 20th century. The firm was renowned for elegant design, exquisite materials and impeccable craftsmanship. Carrington's gold and platinum accessories were retailed by Tiffany & Co. and other carriage trade jewelers of the day.
Careful attention to small details and hidden parts was a hallmark of Carrington & Company's jewelry production. This can be seen on the reverse of the cufflinks. The backs are crafted in 14kt yellow gold and polished to a bright finish. Note the sturdy cross bars and brackets with beveled ends that secure these cufflinks on the cuff. The shirt studs and vest buttons were crafted with similar care.
The reverse of the cufflinks and vest buttons are signed with the maker's mark of Carrington & Company, a blocky "C" enclosing "14" for the purity of the gold. The backs of the pieces are also marked "GOLD&PLAT" for the precious metals used.
