Mid-Century Modern CufflinksArt Moderne! |
Abstract cuff sculpture that beautifully captures the stark, modern design aesthetic of the late 1940s and early 1950s. The slightly concave tops have a soft, pebbly surface that gently rises to cat's eye chrysoberyl centers. The chrysoberyls are a shimmering green and honey color with strong cat's eyes that wink as the cufflinks move. Still photographs cannot do these cufflinks justice! Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1950.
These cufflinks were created by L.E. Garrigus & Co., a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets during the middle years of the 20th century. The firm's jewels often embraced the stark, simple design sensibility of the mid century and were sold by Tiffany and other prestigious jewelers of the day.
The backs of the cufflinks are well crafted in 14kt yellow gold with sturdy brackets and cross bars to secure the links on the cuff. The yellow gold backs are polished to a mirror-like finish - please excuse the shadowy reflections from my camera.
The maker's mark of L.E. Garrigus, a flowing double-ended scroll, is found
