Pearl on Mother-of-Pearl Dress SetArt Moderne |
An elegant full dress set with the simple
geometry and white-on-white color scheme favored during the late
Art Deco period. The dress set features pearl and
mother-of-pearl centers surrounded by a platinum border of
concentric circles. This dress set beautifully evokes the
simple elegance of the late Art Deco style known as "Art
Moderne". Crafted in platinum and 14kt gold, circa
1930.
Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs and four vest buttons. The shirt studs and vest buttons repeat the dramatic design of the cufflinks. The shirt studs (pictured above) are 5/16" in diameter and 1 1/8" long. The vest buttons (one shown below) are 1/2" in diameter. This dress set was created by L.E. Garrigus & Co., a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets during the middle years of the 20th century. The firm's gold and platinum jewels were sold by Tiffany & Company and other prestigious jewelers of the day. The reverse of the cufflinks, shirt studs and vest buttons are stamped with the maker's mark for L.E. Garrigus & Co., a flowing double-ended scroll. The backs are beautifully crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a mirror-like finish - the dark reflections are from my camera. As is common with Garrigus cufflinks, the links are secured on the cuff with sturdy brackets and cross bars
The Garrigus maker's mark is found just below the "14K" gold purity mark. The backs of the cufflinks, studs and buttons are also stamped "PLAT&GOLD" for the precious metals.
As a further touch of elegance, the sturdy
cross bars of the cufflinks repeat the
the double-ended scroll comprising the Garrigus maker's mark.
