Antique Gold Larter & Sons CufflinksThe Classics! |
During the early decades of the last century some of the most elegant pairs of cufflinks were made by the firm Larter & Sons. This wonderful pair features classically inspired swags and star bursts surrounded by intricately engraved borders. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1920.
As with all fine jewels, you should examine cufflinks closely from the back. Here you can see the maker's attention to detail and the ornate scrolls that decorate the usually unseen cross bars. Also note the high polish and care with which the backs of the cufflinks are finished.
The maker's mark for Larter & Sons is visible just to the right of the "14K" gold mark. The mark is a spring-back shirt stud. Larter & Sons was founded in 1865 and made distinctive cufflinks, dress sets and gentlemen's jewelry during the late Victorian era and first few decades of the last century. The firm had offices in New York City and manufactured its jewelry across the Hudson in Newark, New Jersey. It was known for elegant design, innovation and craftsmanship. Name: The Classics!
