Antique Dark Abalone Dress SetAbalone Tuxedo Set |
An Art Deco tuxedo set featuring dark abalone
centers surrounded by reeded white gold borders. The
iridescent centers are alive with flashes of green and dark
purple. Crafted by Larter & Sons in 14kt gold,
circa 1925. Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs. Like the cufflinks, the studs are crafted in 14kt gold with dark abalone centers surrounded by reeded white gold borders.
As with all fine jewels, you should examine cufflinks closely from every direction. The backs of the cufflinks and shirt studs are crafted in 14kt yellow gold. You can see the maker's attention to detail in the sturdy brackets and cross bars that secure the links. Please excuse the reflections from our camera.
The cross bars display the maker's mark for Larter & Sons and the "14K" gold mark. The maker's mark is a spring-loaded shirt stud, a design Halsey Larter patented in 1898. Larter & Sons was founded in 1865 and made distinctive cufflinks, dress sets and gentlemen's jewelry during the late Victorian era and early decades of the last century. The firm had offices in New York City and manufactured its jewelry across the Hudson in Newark, New Jersey. It was known for elegant design, innovation and craftsmanship. Name: Abalone Tuxedo Set |
